The Ezinaulo project helped me uncover my maternal lineage's rich history and culture. While I grew up with a strong understanding of my paternal lineage, it inspired me to delve deeper into my heritage. By utilizing family records, state records, and oral tradition, I was able to trace my family lineage back several generations to the Igbo tribe in Nigeria.
As I uncovered new information, I felt inspired to honor my family's past and culture through my creative work. Using inspiration from Africa's vibrant textiles and fabrics, I developed unique intricate patterns and geometrics that reflected the essence of my heritage. From this, I designed posters that brought to life my interpretation of the information I had discovered.
I created posters and a book to document the process of my research and creative journey. Through my unique style, which drew heavily on Nigerian representations, I was able to represent my family's past in a way that was both authentic and inspiring.
